Course Description
This course explores the internal design and organization of modern computer systems. The curriculum focuses on the instruction set architecture (ISA), CPU design, and the datapath and control unit interaction. Students study performance enhancement techniques, including pipelining, cache memory hierarchies, and virtual memory management. The course also addresses parallel processing and the design of input/output subsystems. By the end of the semester, students will understand the hardware-software interface and be capable of evaluating architectural trade-offs to optimize the speed, power consumption, and reliability of computing systems.
