Course Description
This foundational course introduces the fundamental concepts of differential and integral calculus, focusing on functions of a single variable. The curriculum covers limits, continuity, and the definition of the derivative. Students explore various differentiation techniques, including the chain rule, implicit differentiation, and their applications in optimization and related rates problems. The course also introduces the Mean Value Theorem and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, bridging the gap between derivatives and integrals. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of analyzing function behavior, calculating areas under curves, and applying mathematical modeling to solve basic engineering and physics problems, providing the essential analytical tools required for all subsequent advanced engineering mathematics.
