Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental principles, techniques, and applications of modern biotechnology. Students explore how biological systems, organisms, and cellular components are used to develop products and technologies that address challenges in medicine, agriculture, industry, and environmental management. Core topics include genetic engineering, recombinant DNA technology, cloning, microbial and plant biotechnology, bioprocessing, and the ethical and regulatory considerations surrounding biotechnological innovations.
The course also examines the role of biotechnology in areas such as pharmaceuticals, food production, biofuels, environmental remediation, and diagnostics. Through theoretical study and practical examples, students gain an understanding of how biotechnological methods contribute to scientific advancement and how these techniques can be applied in educational, research, and applied settings. The aim is to equip students with foundational knowledge and the ability to relate biotechnology to broader biological and societal contexts.
