Course Description
This course enables students to understand the formation of modern Azerbaijan in the international arena by examining the development of state-building traditions, the evolution of political institutions and the logic of foreign policy strategy. Students analyze how domestic and foreign policy interact in shaping national interests and study Azerbaijan’s diplomatic, political, economic and cultural relations with different states, as well as its cooperation with international organizations and decision-making discourse in supranational settings. The course also focuses on Azerbaijan’s role and influence in the global system in areas such as energy, security and regional integration. Students gain a broad analytical perspective on the theoretical and practical foundations of modern Azerbaijani statehood and on the conceptual directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, including how national identity, independence and strategic thinking are shaped through the interaction of internal and external policy dynamics.
