Course Description

The Aruz course for vocal performers (khanandas) is focused on mastering the rhythmic and intonational relationships between the aruz poetic meter system of classical Eastern poetry and mugham vocal performance. Within the course framework, students study the principles of long and short syllables, the structure of tafʿīla (metrical patterns), textual stress, pauses, and rhythmic flow, and learn to apply these elements both theoretically and practically within mugham performance practice.
