Course Type
Elective - Block 5
Course Description
This course focuses on the design and analysis of control systems that can adjust their parameters in real-time to compensate for plant uncertainties and environmental changes. The curriculum covers the fundamental structures of adaptive systems, including Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) and Self-Tuning Regulators (STR). Students study parameter estimation techniques, Lyapunov stability theory for adaptive laws, and the convergence of tracking errors. The course emphasizes the practical challenges of controlling systems with time-varying dynamics, such as high-performance aircraft and robotic manipulators with varying payloads. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of implementing sophisticated adaptive algorithms that maintain optimal system performance and stability despite unpredictable disturbances or aging components in complex engineering applications.
