Course Type
Elective - Block 4
Course Description
This course introduces students to the fundamental structures of modern algebra and their applications in mathematics education. Key topics include sets and mappings, algebraic operations, groups and subgroups, cyclic and permutation groups. Students also study rings, integral domains, and fields, exploring how algebraic structures generalize familiar number systems. Emphasis is placed on developing logical reasoning, proof techniques, and the ability to work with abstract concepts — skills essential for future mathematics teachers. Through examples, exercises, and problem-solving tasks, students learn how abstract algebraic ideas underpin many areas of school mathematics, including number theory, symmetry, and algebraic manipulation. The course prepares students to explain these connections clearly and to strengthen learners’ conceptual understanding.
