Karabakh University Commemorates the 33rd Anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide

In collaboration with the Karabakh Regional Education Department, Karabakh University organized a commemorative event at Khojaly City School No. 1 to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide.
The event began with the playing of Azerbaijan’s National Anthem, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, as well as the victims of the Khojaly Genocide.
Among the attendees were Nargiz Ismayilova, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations at Karabakh University; Senan Mansimli, Head of the Karabakh Regional Education Department; Irada Suleymanova, Director of the University’s Student Affairs Center; Azizaga Najafov, Head of the Department of Philology; along with university faculty members, students, and school staff.
During his opening remarks, Nevai Hasanov, Principal of Khojaly City School No. 1, shared his personal memories as a survivor of the Khojaly tragedy.
Speakers at the event emphasized that, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the Victorious Commander-in-Chief, Azerbaijan’s historic 44-day Patriotic War resulted in the Great Victory, ensuring that the blood of the Khojaly victims and all martyrs was not left unavenged. It was noted that on October 15, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev hoisted Azerbaijan’s National Flag in the city of Khojaly, symbolizing the fulfillment of justice for the genocide victims.
Additionally, speakers highlighted that, as part of the Great Return program, ensuring high-quality education in newly established schools in liberated territories remains a national priority, with ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing student achievements.
The event concluded with the screening of a documentary video on the Khojaly tragedy and Azerbaijan’s victory, followed by literary and artistic performances by students in tribute to the victims and the country’s historic triumph.
